30 Year Computer Use Ban Reversed April 3, 2010
On a recent podcast, I railed against computer use bans as criminal punishment. An appeals court recently overturned a thirty-year ban on computer use as punishment for attempted solicitation of a minor. The court found that the ban was unreasonable and kept the former systems engineer from holding a large number of jobs that require computer use.
It will be interesting to see how courts tailor computer use bans in the future to try to avoid this problem. Preventing people from using computers at home? Bans on using them while not doing work?
